It’s a good idea to avoid sticky and hard foods, as well as chewing gum. This can bend wires, dislodge spacers, or even loosen bands and brackets. If you do have something break or come loose, you can secure it in your mouth inside the piece of orthodontic wax you were given when you were first fitted for your braces.

Tooth decay and gum disease can also cause issues that will extend the duration you need to wear your braces. So be sure to maintain your oral hygiene routine of brushing and flossing twice a day. A water jet or interdental brushes can also help you clean food particles and plaque from some of the hard to reach places.
