Veneers Q & A

How can I get a more attractive smile?

At Jupina Dental, Dr. Jupina and her friendly team offer many solutions for cosmetic dental problems, including orthodontics and teeth whitening. But if you have several cosmetic issues, or want to improve the shape of your teeth, dental veneers can make a dramatic difference in just one procedure.

What is a dental veneer?

A dental veneer is a thin shell of porcelain or composite material that fits over the front of your tooth. Dr. Jupina uses custom-designed veneers to improve the look of teeth that are:

  • Gapped
  • Crooked
  • Crowded
  • Short
  • Misshapen
  • Discolored or stained
  • Uneven or misaligned
  • Cracked or chipped

You can get just one veneer to fix a single tooth or as many as you need. Veneers can match the shade of your other teeth or give you a whiter smile that looks natural and flatters your skin tone.

How do I get veneers?

If you’re a good candidate for veneers, Dr. Jupina will prepare your teeth by sanding away some of the enamel, a process known as etching. That will allow space for the veneers and facilitate a strong bond when they’re cemented in place.

Dr. Jupina will then take molds or 3D images of your teeth, and send them to a lab. She’ll fit you with temporary veneers to protect your etched teeth while your custom-made veneers are created.

In a couple of weeks, when your veneers are ready, she’ll remove the temporary veneers and fit you with your final veneers. When she’s sure the fit is perfect, she’ll cement them in place.

How long do veneers last?

Veneers can last for 10-15 years, or even longer if you maintain good oral health. Although veneers are stain resistant, they don’t protect your teeth from cavities. You’ll still want to brush and floss your teeth twice daily and see Dr. Jupina at least twice a year for an exam and professional cleaning.

Once your teeth have been etched, you’ll need to keep them covered with veneers. So you’ll want to feel sure that veneers are right for you. If you’re interested in veneers, but want them to be reversible, ask Dr. Jupina about Lumineers®.
